Automated Consolidation Journals

posted on January 18, 2016 by

Automated Consolidation journals as the name suggests are created by default during the consolidation process. They provide an insight into the journals that are generated during the consolidation process, giving a clear picture of what values are rolled up from the child entity to the parent. Automated Consolidation Journals can be viewed in the [Proportion] and [Elimination] Value dimension members.

Set-up Required-

  1. Enable Consolidation Rules attribute – Under Application Settings -> Consoidation Rule attribute to be set to “Y”.
  1. Con Rule – This consolidation rule writes data to the [Proportion] and [Elimination] members of the value dimension from the [Parent Total]. The HS.Con function allows a multiplier and nature. Nature is any text and is used for tracing source and target intersections. The Nature parameter generates a journal entry label automatically. Put in a value (text string) in the Nature parameter of the HS.Con function in the Consolidation rules.

ACJYou may want to keep in mind that using the Nature parameter increases the size of the database and may impact consolidation performance.

  1. Appropriate role to view the automatic journals such as Read Journals or Journal Administrator Role.

Since Automated Consolidation Journals are auto generated you cannot load, edit, scan or delete them. Also all the process management steps for submit, approve, reject as well as post or unpost cannot be performed. However you can view, extract or print them.
